Rumor: Apple Working on iPad Air With 12.9-inch Screen

Apple’s iPad Air M1 chipset is a fairly popular iPad. Not only does it fill the gap between the iPad and the iPad Pro, but it also brings some of the features of the Pro iPads at a much more affordable price. However, unlike the iPad Pro, the iPad Air, now in its fifth generation, is available in one size – a 10.9-inch screen. However, this could soon change as DigiTimes claims that Apple could be working on a 12.9-inch iPad Air.

If the claim turns out to be true, it would mean that the iPad Air would also have a 12.9-inch display like the iPad Pro, albeit with an LCD panel instead of the miniLED used by the iPad Pro.

If you think about it, Apple has been experimenting with its Air line for quite some time now. Given that earlier this year it released a larger 15-inch MacBook Air with the M2 chipset, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Apple double down on this strategy with its iPad Air line as well. At the end of the day, not everyone needs Pro features and simply wants a larger device that can perform well for years to come.

Despite this, there were rumors – earlier this month – that Apple was planning to release an updated Apple iPad Air with M2 chipsets, but they turned out to be false. Instead, Apple launched an all-new Apple Pencil with USB-C, which is not Apple’s most affordable pencil. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has also predicted that Apple will not release any new iPads or MacBooks during the rest of 2023.

It remains to be seen if or when Apple will reveal anything about the alleged 12.9-inch iPad Air. For now, you only have the 12.9-inch iPad Pro with the M2 chipset — which retails at Rs 1,12,900 — if you want a bigger screen than the iPad Air 5’s 10.9-inch panel or the smaller iPad Pro’s 11-inch panel.
